Punkin Patch, Sully, Blessings and Murder

What a week!  We've had all sorts of adventures.  First, we were excited to take a day off work last Friday and participate as a family at the Stake 'Fill the Temple' Day in the Oklahoma City Temple.  It was a long day!  We left at 5 am and finally returned at 9:15 pm.  We got stuck in halted traffic and sat for 90 minutes on the freeway (turns out a huge truck broke down in the middle of a construction zone where they couldn't reach the truck very easily and no one could pass).  As long and as difficult it was at times, it was a blessing to be able to sacrifice to join our Stake family in worshipping at the Temple.

We also had out Stake Presidency reorganized that weekend and were again blessed to have Elder Callister of the Presidency of the Seventy visit us.  I went to the Priesthood Leadership training and learned a lot from Elder Callister and a few other traveling Elders about the Rescue and the Hastening.  What an exciting time to be involved in the Work of the Kingdom of God!

This Friday Annette and I hosted our third annual Murder Mystery Party.  This time it was 'Forever Friends', the reunion of troubled College friends at the Old Lodge that goes terribly wrong when one of the friends is discovered murdered in his room.  We had a great time with our good friends the Pearsons, the Beaths and the Hutchings.  Caleb made some homemade chicken noodle soup and bread for the main course and we had beef/cheese/crackers and sparkling cider as appetizers with yummy Sam's Club apple blossoms for dessert.

On Saturday we went as a family to the Punkin Patch!  Hyrum has been mildly obsessed with pumpkins for the last few weeks.  He has his own 'punkin patch' right in front of our door at home (three pumpkins Annette placed on a bale of hay on our doorstep).  We finally went out in the cold to see a corn maze, pumpkin patch, hay ride, petting zoo and cool cow-tractor ride.  Hyrum was all grins.  Thanks for the BYU-I beanie Ra!

Annette did a great job again this year putting together a fun family theme for the Ward Halloween party.  Hyrum was Sullly, Mommy was Mike and Daddy was a door (lame) - all from Monster's Inc.  Despite Daddy's lack of enthusiasm, the family won a prize for our costumes and trunk!  This is the second year Annette's creativity has been recognized at the ward party.  Great job Annette! Hyrum also got a lot of comments about the size of his Sam's Club candy bag.  =)
